Trend Report From The National Special Events Show

I just returned from Tampa, Florida, where I attended The Special Event, the annual national conference and trade show for the special event professionals. As we are always on the hunt for trends and new ideas, TSE offers a bounty!

Color Trends: Tangerine paired with fuchsia. This is an amazing color scheme for Bat Mitzvah’s and dynamite against white for weddings. White at night is not just for weddings! Have no fear Bar Mitzvah boys, we haven’t forgotten you. Sophisticated greens such as citron paired with pewter or lime mixed with silver and black are awesome, masculine palettes.

Texture, Texture, Texture! Ribbon taffeta table linens were everywhere. Some with rosettes and others with swirl patterns. Crushed fabrics and sheers with flocked patterns made bold statements as well. Textured linens are an amazing way to add interest and focus to a dining table.

Texture need not be limited to tablecloths! We’ve been using texture to add drama to centerpieces as well. Check out our silver ball lamps with drum shades. We have a lime green ribbon taffeta shade and a black faux crocodile shade that have been huge hits at parties.

Patterns were also BIG! If a table linen didn’t have texture, it was patterned. From bold geometric prints to swirls; print linen can make a table with a modest centerpiece sing. Patterns washed all over the walls with colored light can take a room from drab to dramatic. Our collection of silver ball lamps with drum shades includes a cool shade with a bold geometric pattern. Don’t be afraid of patterns!

Bling and crystals are still big.

As we move away from traditional incandescent light bulbs in our homes, the special events industry has also embraced low voltage, high intensity technology options. Many of the LED lights we use at events can be programmed to change color. A room can gently transition in a rainbow of colors all night long!

Battery operated LED lights for use in centerpieces, as votive candles and other decorations continue to evolve and improve. We already use a number of LED lights in our props, centerpieces and décor and are excited about trying some new products in the months to come. New color changing centerpieces from S&R are on the way!

That’s what’s hot. Great show, but glad to be home.
